  8. Underworld – Two Months Off (DAVI Remix) [Junior Boy's Own]
  9. James Zabiela – Blame [Renaissance]

The last track, James Zabiela – Blame…  Amazing!!!!

Another break beat track. I got inspired by BT (These Hopeful Machines)… There is such intricate work with effects on his tracks, it really blew me away!

Go take a listen here

So this track, I tried to do similar things, working a lot on panning, glitch etc. This time round I reduced my use off VST’s, and rather went into more sound editing. Good fun with white noise, filters etc.

I changed the bass line mid way to get the track more driving. After the break is my favorite part, nice jabby synth cuts through the mix.

Go check out Jody Wisternoff – May 2010 Way Out There‘s set off http://www.hybridized.org.

Its a little vocally, but just has some epic tracks. The second track for me really gets it into the groove… Arsenal – Estupendo (Gui Boratto Remix).  I think the highlight track is:

  • Sultan & Ned – Crimson

Geez, talk about a big rolling progressive track.  Loads of soundscapes, and constantly evolving!  Its definitely on my to-purchase list.

I’ve just taken a listen to this set, and it’s zipped up to the top of my list.  Really chilled to, yet gets a little driving near the end.  Wonderful to work too, and get lost in your headset….

Session 22 I dedicated to Starfish 2010.  What an amazing party!!!  It seems every year it gets better and better and better!

Below, the track listing:

  1. Stan Kolev, DJ Lion – One Man Company (Original Mix)
  2. Sultan, Ned Shepard – Roads Under Ramallah (Original Mix)
  3. Saeed Younan – Yeah Ha (The Pull Mix)
  4. DC Project – The Invisible Landscape (KhoMha Remix)
  5. Quivver – Sludge (Final Mix)

  7. Dino, Meck – Feels Like A Prayer (Michael Woods Remix)
  8. Shiloh – Run Away (Original Mix)
  9. BT – Rose Of Jerico (Original)
  10. Bent – As You Fall (Guy J Remix)

I’ve got two favorite tracks (Yeah, its allowed!).  The first is GMJ – Contrivation (Dousk Remix).  Its such a rolling track…  Works really well on a dance floor, and keeps the drive going.  The second is Bent – As You Fall (Guy J Remix)…  Beautiful, uplifting and chilled…  Reminds me of some of the original work James Holden did.

Enjoy!

I finally managed to get the budget and upgrade my studio computer to a Mac Pro.  I also decided that I was sick of spending money on two Studio applications (Cubase and Ableton), and since I use Ableton for all our live sets, I dropped Cubase.

I’ve been a Cubase user for many years, and was wondering the best way to try and get into composing with Ableton…  So when I heard there was a remix competition I jumped at the opportunity to use this deadline as a way to get into the studio and learn a new way of producing through Ableton.

The conversion wasn’t too bad, considering I already used Ableton for live sets and sessions…  A few great sources for good tips and tricks:

So, with my trusty Access Virus Indigo 2, Ableton and a few VST’s, I was done.  I threw away basically everything from the original track, using only the one vocal, and lead guitar.  I used Melodyne to pull the Bassline, and get the key of the track, then re-created my own soundscapes etc etc.

So, after entering my track, I kinda forgot about the competition until my Bachelors on the 1st April when Wayne called me telling me I’d won the competition.  Being April Fools Day I didn’t believe him!  But the next day after a small hang over it kicked in…  I’d actually won!  R 50,000 of audio equipment!

Session 21 – Home Straight

Managed to squeeze out a session in between all the studio work:

1. Ozgur Can, AGS – Float Off (Original)
2. Infusion – Legacy (Simon & Shaker Remix)
3. Quivver – Is There Anybody There (Austin Leeds Remix)
4. Outline – Point You (Dousk & Andree Mix)
5. Robert Nickson – Marc (Simon & Shaker Remix)
6. Josh Gabriel – Tone Program (Style Of Eye Mix)
7. Rouzbeh Delavari – Think Inspiration (Christian Cambas Remix)
8. James Talk, Ridney – West End Girls (2009 Club Mix)
9. BT – Rose Of Jericho (Sultan & Ned Shepard Remix)

This one called Home Straight cause it has a feeling of starting of slow around the last corner before speeding up the home straight to the finish line.  Well, not really speeding, its quite a slow session going from 124bpm to 128bpm but still gets very driving.

My favorite track has to be the Josh Gabriel!

Enjoy!

Origin 2009

What a blast, all I can say is Origin 2009 was amazing!

Organica (Being Gravity South, Mike and Jan) got to host the beach dance floor on the Friday night…  What a way to start the party, it was pumping by 12:00, and keep like that till the early hours of the morning.  Was great to see so many people enjoying the progressive music.

Besides the Friday, Wayne and I did a live Gravity South set on the Saturday afternoon on the main dance floor.  After many hours and days in the studio, we had added 5 additional new tracks to our set, and had made our live set up a little bit more complicated.  Now two MacBook Pro’s driving audio, 3 controllers, 1 chaos pad, all sync’ed and layered into the mixer.  All in all, the set went well…  No technical glitches, and our set up proved to be a great way for two performers to drive a set.

There is loads of feedback on Facebook under the Origin Festival group, and of course at http://www.bomelakiesie.co.za

I’ll be uploading all of our new work to the website, so keep your eyes peeled!

Cheers

Lies The Secret (Original)

Hi there…

Just completed another track, this one is a chilled 90bpm track called “Lies The Secret”.  Quite a challenge producing a slower track, so much more space to fill, but on the whole enjoyed it.  Got some really nice water soundscapes and a good groove to it.  Mixed in some psy-trance filter sweeps which put a bit of a twist into the track.

Hope you enjoy!
